Testimonial match honours Inverurie Locos legend
Inverurie Locos legend Neil Gauld was honoured with a testimonial match at Harlaw Park on Sunday.
Gauld's Locos Legends which included long-serving players Neil McLean, Ryan Broadhurst and Steven Park took on a SPFL Select XI side which featured the likes of Russell Anderson, Michael Gardyne and Stuart Duff.
As well as recognising Gauld's service during his spells with his home town club over 15 seasons, the main aim of the game was to raise money for his two nominated charities AberNecessities and Anthony Nolan.
During his time with the club Gauld (34) has made 378 senior appearances; scored 286 goals with 25 hat-tricks, including the fastest one in Scottish Cup history; and won two Highland League Cups, the Aberdeenshire Shield and the North Challenge Cup. His highest scoring season was in 2013/14 when he netted 43 times.
As well as the match a testimonial dinner was held earlier in the month at The Marcliffe Hotel in Aberdeen and a golf day will be held on Saturday, April 30.
The money raised will benefit AberNecessities which provides disadvantaged families with the essential and basic items that they need including nappies, formula milk, clothing, toys and equipment for children.

Proceeds will also go to charity Anthony Nolan which supports people with blood cancer and blood disorders and their families.
The Locos Legends team consisted of Andy Reid, Greg Mitchell, Scott Buchan, Tommy Wilson, Steven Park, Ryan Broadhurst, Craig Ross, Andy Low, Neil Gauld, Stuart McKay, Neil McLean, Mark Souter, Bobby Maitland, Richard Davidson, Ally Graham, Jamie Michie, Calum Dingwall, Roddy Mess, Ross McWilliam and Stuart Gray. The squad was managed by Dave Cormie who was assisted by Ian Duguid and The Chuff Chuffs.
The SPFL Select featured Barry Thompson, Roy McBain, Hugh Robertson, Russell Anderson, Craig McKeown, Richie Hart, Michael Gardyne, Liam Keogh, Robert Ward, Jamie Watt, Jordan Brown, Stuart Duff, Martin Bavidge, Jonny Smith and Errol Watson. The team was managed by Paul Lawson.
In the match itself the SPFL Select side opened the scoring when a ball was played to Gardyne and he made no mistake with his shot.
The Locos Legends equalised shortly after when a pass found Dingwall and he shot past Watson.
After several chances during the game Gauld finally got his goal late on to secure the victory for his team.
He was subbed off shortly after and the striker received a great ovation from the crowd.
As the match came to a close Gauld was named the man of the match and at the final whistle he was applauded off the pitch by the players from both teams, club representatives, family, friends and fans.
Gauld said: "It was good match, I have not been playing so it was a bit of a slog for myself.
"I eventually got a goal and I think they basically just gave me one in the end as they felt sorry for me. It was an enjoyable day.
"The main aim was to raise the money for the two charities and I am grateful to everybody who supported the match and the other events.
"I've been into see the work of AberNecessities it's quite a new charity and it helps under privileged children.
"The other one is Anthony Nolan. My cousin died of blood cancer when he was 18, so that was the reason I selected that cause and his mum was here collecting donations.
"Hopefully we have made a good amount of money for both of them.
"A lot of the boys playing were ex-players and it was unbelievable getting them back in the changing room. It was a good laugh with them. It was also great to see Dave Cormie and Ian Duguid return as manager and assistant.
"I have signed another contract for a year as I still feel fit and good enough for another season and I am looking forward to it."
