RAF set for Diamond anniversary display to celebrate Peterhead Scottish Week
Organisers of the Peterhead Scottish Week which takes place in July have been planning a special celebration to mark the event's 60th anniversary.
Returning to the north-east are the RAF Red Arrows who will thrill onlookers across the bay at Peterhead and will be accompanied by two display Spitfires and the much anticipated appearance of the RAF Falcons Parachute Display Team.
Last year's event, one of the largest to take place as lockdown restrictions were lifted, drew hundreds of onlookers from across the whole of the north-east to the town, packing out the harbour area.
The display is scheduled for Wednesday, July 20 and will take place in the skies above Peterhead Bay.
The Red Arrows flew for the first time back in 1965 and this year will mark their ninth appearance at Scottish Week.
Formed in 1961 by a team of instrcutors, the Falcons Parachute Display Team remain one of the world’s leading free fall display teams and continue to be a major attraction wherever they perform.
Needing no introduction, the Spitfire is the most famous British fighter aircraft in history and an icon of the air.
Peterhead Scottish Week remains the largest and longest running weeklong gala in the country, hosting a programme of events to cater for every age group.
