Work on turning car warning at "terrifying" Huntly Tesco A96 junction to begin
THE next step in plans to improve a widely-criticised junction on the A96 will begin on Monday.
As part of a £400,000 scheme announced earlier this year, signs will be installed at the A96/A920 junction near Huntly Tesco which will detect vehicles waiting to turn on to the A96 and warn approaching drivers.
The work will begin tomorrow (Monday, September 25), and will run until Friday, September 29.
Four-way temporary traffic lights will manage traffic during the roadworks, which will take place overnight between 7.30pm and 6am, with a 750 metre section of road closed.
The announcement follows the completion of the project's first phase, which saw road markings at the junction being repainted.
Led by road operator Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, the completed works also involved resurfacing.
The junction was the subject of a safety review and a community petition to turn the junction into a roundabout, after a spate of crashes, in 2021.
Plans for improvements to the junction were announced in June.
A spokesperson for Amey said the new works "will provide a safer junction for all road users, helping to reduce vehicle speeds and adding clarification to the junction layout".
