IN PICTURES: Turriff area youngsters poster art's Doric inspiration





Doric words and phrases were the inspiration for a competition run by Turriff Heritage Society, which saw youngsters from three local schools create artwork based on their choices.

Pupils from King Edward, Fintry and Crudie schools produced a wide range of drawings and illustrations of their favourites and the winners and runners-up were welcomed along to the former Municipal Building in the town on Saturday afternoon to be presented with prizes.

Winning entries included Haud Yer Wheesht, Affa Cauld and Scurries, with all the entries put on display.

The competition was held as part of the wider Doric Day at the museum which also saw performances from Doug Hay and Moira Stewart of traditional bothy ballads and Gordon Hay with his interpretation of the bible into Doric.

In the coming week, the museum will be open on Monday for May Day in Turriff before opening for the season on Wednesday, May 3.

There will also be a talk on Tuesday, May 2 at 7pm by Bill Diack on Famous Folk of the North East (£5 entry including refreshments).
