Folk at the Salmon Bothy set for festive performances in Portsoy





Portsoy's Folk at the Salmon Bothy is looking forward to a festive season of musical celebrations.

Kicking off the festivities is the club’s Christmas Open Mic Night on Friday, December 15, with an extended set by Fair Trickit.

Local lasses Chloe and Charlotte are sure to provide an upbeat performance peppered with quirky humour.

The event takes place at Portsoy Salmon Bothy, with doors opening at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. Entry is £5 and all are welcome.

A New Year’s Day Singaround will welcome the new year and dust off the Hogmanay hangovers.

All are welcome to join on Monday, January 1 at Portsoy Bowling Club for an 8pm start. Entry is free and people can bring nibbles to share and a raffle prize.

The club’s Open Mic Nights continue on the third Friday of each month throughout the year, with the first on Friday, January 19, 2024, at Portsoy Salmon Bothy. Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.

A new format of songs and tunes around the table will be trialled. All are welcome.

Bob Philips, chairman of Folk at the Salmon Bothy, said: “We are looking forward to celebrating the festive season and welcoming the new year with songs, music and stories.

"It has been another busy and successful year for the club, so we have much to celebrate and lots to look forward to with a packed programme planned for 2024.

"We look forward to welcoming members and friends old and new to our forthcoming sessions.”

Folk at the Salmon Bothy in Portsoy hosts a variety of traditional music events and gatherings throughout the year.

The monthly Folk Club Sessions continue to grow in popularity, showcasing a range of music, songs, ballads and poems.

Sessions are held in the Salmon Bothy in Portsoy on the third Friday of each month from 7pm-11pm.

The annual Haal music festival continues to attract the best performers from around the regions to take part in a variety of concerts, music sessions, workshops and sing-arounds for all ages and abilities in venues across Portsoy.

The 14th Haal will take place on May 31 and June 1 and 2, 2024.
