Farmer urged to swap wellies for running shoes
Agricultural charity, RSABI, is on the hunt for four ambitious runners in the agricultural community willing to take on the 2023 Baxters Loch Ness Marathon.
Confirmed as a charity partner of the event for the second year running, RSABI has four free positions available for the marathon for anyone in the agricultural community who is willing to train to run, and raise funds on the charity’s behalf.
Set to take place on Sunday, October 1, the bucket-list marathon routes alongside world famous Loch Ness and finishes in Inverness, the capital city of the Highlands.
RSABI is encouraging interested participants to sign up now but to ensure they have trained properly in the months leading up to the event, an arduous test of mental and physical fitness.
Specialising in providing practical and emotional support to the farming community, as well as financial help, RSABI works alongside a number of other organisations to promote positive mental health and wellbeing in Scottish agriculture.
Passionate about the positive impact exercise can have on individuals’ mental health, the charity has recently appointed two fitness ambassadors to help inspire farmers and crofters, and others working in Scottish agriculture, about the benefits of keeping fit.
Jacalyn Dunlop and Grant Neilson are a farming couple from the south-west Scotland, who both placed within the top three in the 2022 Britain’s Fittest Farmer and now run their own fitness business G&J Coaching.
As health and fitness ambassadors for RSABI, the pair are working with the charity on a series of videos to promote routes to fitness that are both relatable and realistic for working farmers to take part in.
Carol McLaren, RSABI chief executive, said: “We are excited to be partnering with the Baxters Loch Ness marathon once again, and hope that by getting involved, we can inspire farmers and crofters about the benefits of looking after themselves, both physically and mentally.”
If you’re considering running the Baxters Loch Ness Marathon and interested in taking one of the four free positions, please email rsabi@rsabi.org.uk with contact details.
Malcolm Sutherland, Event & Race Director said: “We are delighted to have RSABI on board as one of our official charity partners again this year and looking forward to working with them to maximise their fundraising opportunities at the event.”
Entries to the Baxters Loch Ness Marathon 2023, River Ness 10K and 5K, are now open.
