Everything from acquiring job ready skills to gaining cooking confidence are on the table over the next few weeks.

DWP employer and partnership manager Jane Munro said: "Every year we run courses which concentrate on a particular sector and this year our focus is on hospitality, tourism and leisure.

"These sectors are often overlooked or dismissed as a sector of short-term, low-skilled work and we aim to dispel these myths by promoting the sectors excellent career progression routes, variety of jobs, flexible hours and so on.

"It's about upskilling people to help them into or move forward in these sectors. we're also looking to work with employers and get them involved.

"From February 17-28 there's a course running at Moray College UHI which includes the likes of REHIS, CV skills, customer service and interview techniques to name a few.

"Those successfully completing it get a certificate which they can walk into a job with, it gives them job ready skills.

"For more information, customers should contact their work coach."

There will be an information session at Elgin Jobcentre Plus on Monday, February 10 at 10.30am for anyone wishing to find out more about the course.

February 28 will see a jobs fair with a difference between 11am and 11.30am.

The virtual jobs fair will bring together hospitality sector employers and jobseekers via Twitter on @jcpinNorthscot. DWP customers do not need to have a Twitter account to log on. Those logging on at a job centre will have access to assistance from staff.

It is hoped to cover at least a vacancy a minute during the event and the DWP are keen to hear from hospitality sector employers who are interested in participating.

Career opportunities offered by Premier Inn will feature at a special information session being hosted by the firm's Elgin hotel on February 19. More information is available through work coaches.
