VIDEO: Dean Donaldson’s delight at Inverurie Locos’ Aberdeenshire Cup final victory over Buckie Thistle

By Craig Christie

Inverurie Locos manager Dean Donaldson spoke about his pride after Tuesday night’s Aberdeenshire Cup triumph.

Locos defeated Buckie Thistle on penalties in the final at Kynoch Park following a goalless 90 minutes.

Watch interview below.

Donaldson praised his team’s determination and effort, spoke about their strong second half to the season and hailed experienced defender Mark ‘Soapy’ Souter, who scored the winning penalty.

Aidan Wilson, Calum Dingwall and Sam Burnett all netted in the shoot-out with keeper Zack Ellis - who played an inspired match - saving Max Barry’s second kick for Buckie.

Teenager Blair Smith saw his kick saved by Buckie keeper Stuart Knight and it took a clinical Jay Halliday finish to take the penalties into sudden death.

Keeper Ellis then made a great job of Locos’ sixth kick as did Cole Anderson with the next, Buckie scoring both theirs to make it 6-6.

Buckie’s Josh Peters hit the crossbar and Locos’ Logan Johnstone had a kick to win it, but also smashed it off the bar.

Hero Ellis then kept out Sam Pugh’s effort from the spot and Souter stepped up to take Inverurie’s ninth of the night and scored clinically to spark the Locos’ celebrations.
