Fochabers groups join forces for Recycle Summer event

By Alan Beresford

TWO Fochabers groups have joined forces to co-host this year’s Recycle Summer event.

Fochabers Food Stop, who operate a 24/7 food larder outside the Scout Hall in the village, will be joining Fochabers Village Association Recycle Summer to hold a goods swap event in the Public Institute over Saturday and Sunday May 25-26, running 10am-4pm and 1pm-4pm respectively.

There is set to be a wide selection of quality, pre-loved goods on offer for the community to browse and take home. Those attending are asked to take their own bags.

Donations to the event will be most welcome. These can be dropped off at the institute at the following days and times: Wednesday, May 22, 4pm-6pm; Thursday, May 23, 10am-12 noon and 2pm-6pm; Friday May 24, 10am-12 noon, 2pm-5pm and 7pm-9pm.

Food donations of non-perishable items and also cash are also welcome.

The group are keen to expand the number of collection points for donations as well as the volume of donations themselves. Also, they are seeking to engage more with local businesses with a view to increasing overall donations.

Fochabers Food Stop were formed last year to help those in the village who were struggling with the cost of living crisis. The service - for which there is no registration process - is anonymous, with people able to stop by the larder on Christie Street outside the Scout Hall and take what they need or leave donations of non-perishable items.

In addition to food, the service offers toiletries, pet food, baby food and sanitary products.
