Aberdeenshire Council confirms closure of Banff, Ellon, Huntly, Stonehaven and Turriff service points
Aberdeenshire Council has confirmed the closure date of five north-east customer service points.
A spokesperson said: “Amidst economic uncertainty and significant financial challenges for Aberdeenshire Council and its residents, the local authority set its 2024/25 budget on February 22. The council’s main focus remains on ensuring the delivery of core and statutory services, however a number of difficult decisions were taken – one of which was to close Service Points in Banff, Ellon, Huntly, Stonehaven and Turriff. Fraserburgh, Inverurie and Peterhead service points will remain open.”
“Footfall to these Service Points has continually decreased over the last few years, with many customers finding alternative ways to interact with the council since the Covid pandemic. A growing number of customers also now access council services online and by telephone. The affected Service Points will be closing on April 26 with all staff remaining within Customer Services.”
“Services will continue to support essential in-person appointments where matters cannot be dealt with during a phonecall.”
Customers will continue to be supported to access services via online and telephone, with signposting available at any council building including Live Life Aberdeenshire facilities.
Wherever possible, however, customers are now being encouraged to self-serve using a variety of online options available via the website and mobile app.
Offering online access enhances accessibility, provides faster response times, and accommodates the preferences of individuals, contributing to a more satisfying customer experience. Telephone numbers continue to be available for customers who require additional support to complete transactions/enquiries.
Documents seen by Grampian Online indicate that an earlier closure date had been proposed with closures to take place at the start of April but this was suspended until the new April 26 date.
