Two in court after cannabis bust at Banff’s vacant M&Co shop

A CANNABIS-growing operation worth up to £210,000 was discovered in Banff yesterday, when police raided the town’s vacant M&Co shop.

Ergi Zani (21) and Edison Stafalla (34) were arrested and charged with the production of controlled drugs in connection with the find.

The pair appeared at Peterhead Sheriff Court today, made no plea, and were released on bail.

A date for their next appearance has not been set.

According to court documents, Stafalla lives in Aberdeen and Zani lives in Harrow, England.

A police cordon was set up around the empty shop building yesterday afternoon and the site saw a continued police presence today.

Reports to police revealed that cannabis was being grown in the vacant unit, a spokesperson confirmed, and officers attended the shop at around 1.40pm yesterday.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 1.40pm on Tuesday, 26 March, 2024, we were called to a report of a cannabis cultivation within a premises on High Street, Banff.

"Officers attended and two men, aged 30 and 21, were arrested and charged in connection with the discovery.

"The are due to appear at Peterhead Sheriff Court on Wednesday, 27 March, 2024."
